How to become a Real Estate Broker or Agent

Most States in the USA require you to complete a minimum number of hours of pre-license education, and then pass an official exam. You then join a realty company and receive your sponsorship and the license. Illinois follows the same method.

Requirements to become a real estate agent in Illinois

You must meet the following requirements.

  • Age: You must be at least 18 years old.
  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent: You must have a high school diploma or an equivalent.
  • Pre-License Education: Complete 75 hours of pre-license education at an Illinois approved real estate school. This includes 60 hours of coursework and 15 hours of interactive or situational coursework.
  • Examination: Pass the Illinois Real Estate Broker Examination.
  • Sponsorship: Obtain sponsorship from a licensed real estate managing broker.
  • Application: Submit a completed application for a broker license along with the required fee to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
